I've been working on our website a lot the last few days, and it's really starting to come together! Our goal is to make our site the most comprehensive, user-friendly, easy to navigate roller derby website in the area! With information about where to buy skates/gear, and a page dedicated to "Frequently Asked Derby Questions," it's the one-stop site to find out anything you want to know about roller derby in Oklahoma! And by keeping everything in-house (designed and maintained by our own rollergirls) we have the ability to keep it updated with all the latest info at all times!
Check out our newly updated and redesigned website!

Practice is SO MUCH FUN!!!!!
O - M - G - !!!!!!
That's all I have to say about last night's practice! Our new girls are kicking so much ass, and showing incredible improvement! And not just the "new girls"... EVERYONE!!!
We started off the night going right into a booty blocking drill, which was also a bit of endurance. Who am I kidding... booty blocking takes A LOT of endurance! We paired "newbies" with "vets" to give the new girls a better practice, and it definitely paid off. We had the girls switch partners several times, and by the end of the drill everyone was warmed up and ready to scrimmage.

We did a quick "Pack 40" drill (created by the one and only "Clean Chuck" - former ref and trainer of Tulsa's "Green Country Roller Girls") where the girls skate in a pack (shoulder-to-shoulder) for 40 laps around the track, and the drill doesn't stop until EVERY skater completes the full 40 laps. It's a great pack-awareness drill, and also helps with team-building because it requires the girls to communicate to each other within the pack. If someone starts to fall behind, a more advanced skater must fall back to give her a push or a whip to help her catch up.
Outstandingly, EVERYONE finished the drill in an RDRR record time!
By 8:30pm, the girls were chomping at the bit to start scrimmaging. We finished the night with well over an hour of full-on, hard-hitting, fast-skating SCRIMMAGING. Everyone got the chance to participate, and to my surprise, I saw some incredible "jammer" potential in several of the new girls!!! I was so impressed by the entire practice that I got as giddy and excited as a little school girl :)

During cool-down stretches, we high-fived each other and congratulated the new girls on such an awesome performance. The entire league erupted with a round of applause!
Most of us went home to doctor our temporary wounds, with grins on our faces and derby in our heads!
If you want to join the fun, and become a real-life banked track ROLLERGIRL... then contact us via email: contact@reddirtrebellion.com. If you wanna be part of the "family" but don't wanna get hurt, we'd still love to have you on the league as a REFEREE, or a member of our PRODUCTION CREW.
We have several other positions available as well, including Stats/Score Keepers, Announcer, Cheerleaders, Mascot(s), Ticket Takers, and many many other volunteer-based positions!

UPDATE!!!
Wow! Sorry it's been so long since we've blogged, Red Dirt Rebellion has been SUPER busy lateley. I have a lot to talk about, so I'll try to make each item brief...
----------------------------------
We've FINALLY found a building to house our banked track! After almost 2 years since the formation of Red Dirt Rebellion, we are now on our way to scheduling our first bout season! We hope to perform our Debut Bout this coming summer.
We'll be meeting at the storage unit at 9:00am Saturday morning (March 28th) to start loading up and moving the track to it's new location. We could use all the help we can get, the more people we have helping, the faster it will go.
All Storage
4500 Deer Ridge Blvd
Oklahoma City, OK 73127
(405) 350-7370
If you plan to come out, please bring a pick up or a flatbed trailer if you can :)
FREE BEER will be available to all those who come help!
FREE BEER will be available to all those who come help!
----------------------
In other news... Although our Debut Banked Track Bout will not be until this summer, Red Dirt Rebellion Rollergirls is scheduled for our first public "exhibition scrimmage" at the McAlester Expo Center, in McAlester OK., Saturday April 18th! Since our banked track needs a few minor repairs from it's use in the movie production, we will be performing this exhibition scrimmage on a flat track. Our girls have been working extremely hard to prepare for their first public appearance, we've actually added a 3rd practice to our weekly schedule! The league will be split down the middle, half-and-half; Blue vs. White. The girls will then scrimmage against each other as if they were performing a regular season-scheduled bout, with Referee's calling out penalties and points being kept. Concessions & Beer will be available (must have valid ID for alcohol purchases). We are expecting a crowd of around 700+. Tickets are $10 flat rate, with children 6 and under FREE.

Moving on...
Last month, to our wonderful surprise, we were formally invited to participate in the National Banked Track Tournament this summer, being held in Austin, TX! We discussed the tournament as a league, and have decided to put together a Travel Team for this tournament :) We couldn't be more excited (or nervous) to play against some of the top-ranked derby leagues in the country, including: TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls, L.A. Derby Dolls, & San Diego Derby Dolls. Also participating in the tournament this year, is Grand Strand Roller Girls, from Myrtle Beach, and WFTDA's "Team Awesome". Last summer was the first annual National Banked Track Tournament, held in L.A., but we were in the midst of finishing our track, shipping it to Detroit, and dealing with medical emergencies (see first blog post), and unfortunately were not able to participate in the tournament. We got our ducks in a row this year, and we wouldn't miss the opportunity to participate for the WORLD! As the "rookie" league of Banked Track Roller Derby, we are fully aware that we'll probably get a royal ass-whoopin'! But the experience alone is enough to put a grin on all our faces :)
The summer of 2009 has A LOT in store for Red Dirt Rebellion, including ROLLERCON!!!!! For those outside of the derby community... RollerCon is the once-a-year, world-wide roller derby convention, always held in fabulous Las Vegas! With daily on-skates workshops, scrimmages in the middle of Fremont Street, and a "derby wedding" including an Elvis Minister, trains made of toilet paper, and hundreds of rollergirls getting hitched to their "Derby Wives"... it is the mecca of derby get-togethers.
We also took some new League pictures a few weeks ago, as well as some individual pictures of the girls. Here is the latest league picture. Click the link provided to view individual pics of the girls: Meet The Girls!
Thanks for reading, and I promise to update more often in the future!
