Workin' Hard

Hello again! Sorry for such a long break in between posts. We've been swamped with 3 practices a week, recruiting, fundraising, and preparing for the upcoming NATIONAL ROLLER DERBY TOURNAMENT in Austin, TX next month!

To retrace our steps a bit, I'll start from right after our exhibition bout in McAlester last month...

When we got home from McAlester, the Board of Directors decided that it would be fun to surprise the girls by setting up the banked track without them knowing :) hee hee we're so sneaky! We rallied the troops (our menfolk and friends) for 2 nights of hard work, and got the track set up before the next League Practice. We told the girls to be at the warehouse for a "league meeting," and made them wait outside for about 30 minutes while we had a "BOD meeting" (we were actually finishing up the last pieces of masonite). So when the final screw was in place, we had all the girls gather by the big garage door for the "Grand Revealing"

We threw the door open, and like a kid on Christmas, it was a madhouse of screams, goosebumps, tears (of joy), and jumping around! Fortunately, we had a video & still camera inside the warehouse to capture the first moment on film :)

It was a wonderful surprise, and the next time the track's gotta be moved and/or set up, us Board members are gunna sit back with a "cold one" while the others get experience working on the track ;P lol naw j/k!

ANYway... We're still working hard to get everything lined out, and hopefully our first bout season will be finalized within the next couple of weeks - with our first bout probably being towards the middle/end of this summer.

Roller Derby (and especially banked track derby) is a large-scale production, which requires $$$ to perform bouts. We're still looking for advertisers and sponsors to help us get the ball rolling so we can show this town what we've been DOING for the past 2 years!!!
