We recently played in the National Banked Track Roller Derby Tournament in Austin, TX! Read the Day 1 Bout Recap for details. We had a great time, and played some great teams! Our rollergirls learned a lot, and kept their heads held high as they battled the LA Derby Dolls (champions of last year's tournament). Although we didn't win our 1st game, we came back with a vengance and were ready to kick ass the 2nd time around... which paid off as we WON our next game against Corpus Christi's Hurricane Alley Roller Derby! As the rookies of the tournament, we had our work cut out for us. The LA Derby Dolls, as nice as they were, totally creamed us with a point spread of 185-2. OUCH!!! But that didn't stop us. We were not favored to win our second game against Hurricane Alley either, since they've been playing flat track games for several years and have had training by TXRD's Lonestar Rollergirls. We were determined to prove everyone wrong, we had the drive and the fire to play to win, and we did!
Talking with some of the spectators after the game, most of them said that our game against Hurricane Alley was "the best one of the first day" which really made us feel proud. We made a name for ourselves in Austin, and since then we've been bombarded with other teams wanting to come here to train us in OKC!
We had so much fun in Austin, we can't wait for the next year's tournament (held in San Diego, CA). We're planning to host the 2011 4th annual Battle On The Bank here in Oklahoma City!
